Tales of Spring on the Way!
Spring is hinting at its imminent arrival. Snowdrops are opening, trees are budding and the air has a different scent. Whispers of warm air, eddy around the new growth and we are looking forward to some bolder colours for the next season.
We walked at Neck Point yesterday morning. Only a sweater was needed to keep warm and we could see that a change was in the air.
Buds are just starting to emerge from the winters rest; birds were congregating; and the Seals were playing out in the bay. There was a very playful kind of feel to the morning air. There were many families out walking, children were laughing as parents pointed out everything that they could see.
There were two tugs out in the Straight, each pulling large log booms, and small fishing boats as well, waiting for the fish to bite. They might be waiting awhile with the seals around.
There were gulls, cormorants, harlequin ducks and eagles out yesterday. As we arrived at the park everyone leaving was commenting on an owl that was sitting on a low branch and it had just sat there calmly as the crowd commented and photographed. By the time I got there the owl had exhausted its patience and left!
The greens were brighter, especially the green of the lichens, and the Aspens appeared to have green shoes as the lichens and mosses were moving their way up the grey trunks. Once the air warms up even more, the lichens and moss will die back until the next winter.
Sophie loved the walk, she was into and out of every hole and knoll that she could find. Every dog wanted to play and every person wanted to be friends. It was good day to be a dog at the park.
As I am knitting an undyed yarn for painting, my eye strays towards a new hank of Handmaiden Silk in the Sumac colourway. Deep reds, burgundys, golds and oranges – I think that they would look fabulous with some gold and bronze beads, maybe highlighted with black. I need a new bracelet!
I think that this afternoon I will have to wind the yarn and string the beads and start! Spring, the season of starting many new projects, is here! LOL!
Yesterday after the walk, I spent the rest of the day knitting. The second “wing” of Crystalline is more than half done. I should finish it today sometime and graft it on tomorrow. I know what I want for the edging, but yardage could be a problem. I will have to do some math.
I knit about 150 yds of yarn yesterday - it was a good day!
I hope that you get the chance to go for a walk today. Or a chance to knit up a storm!
